Sept. 8th letter about Mom's change in condition and time in the hospital

Here is a letter I sent out via email, on Sept. 8, 2009. We had just learned of a change in Mom's condition and asked everyone to pray. Mom's time in the hospital was very trying on her body; she was not allowed to eat for 2 days because of testing, and then had more difficulty once eating commenced. So by the time she returned to her nursing home, she was wiped out!

Thank you for your friendship and love!

We wanted to let you know that Jane's mom Gene is having some increased health concerns. On Friday, Mom was having swelling in her right foot and she also was having more difficulty breathing. Then on Saturday night, after testing at her nursing home showed a pulmonary embolism, she was transported by ambulance to Sequoia Hospital. The hospital tests have revealed a blood clot in her right lung and also a tumor in her right lung. She is in the cardiac monitoring wing of Sequoia Hospital tonight, and may be transported back to her nursing home tomorrow. Mom is on oxygen 24 hrs. a day and is very tired. Eating has become quite difficult in recent months because of serious dental issues, so she is on a soft diet which is not appealing and even with the soft diet, eating is difficult. Mom is very tired and "worn out". The decision has been made to not treat the clot, which would be hard on Mom, but to make her as comfortable as possible. My brother Steve recommends not many visitors at this time because she is exhausted. Mom will be going on hospice once again (this will be her fourth term on hospice, which is "supposed" to be for people who have 6 months to live.) Who knows, this time she may "graduate", not in the way that hospice "graduated" her in the past, by saying she was still thriving, but this time the Lord may be pleased to call her unto Himself and make her perfectly whole in Heaven. Our family is preparing once again for that and we are getting ready to tell Mom about her condition. The last time I spoke with her, on Friday evening, she was telling me about her swollen foot and also the increased discomfort in her chest. I asked if she thought she was getting ready to go to Heaven, and she got tearful and thought that yes, she is getting nearer. Our family sang to her on the phone and she enjoyed that. Thank you for your prayers! We do not know the end of the story yet! God is in perfect control and once again, we trust HIM.
